Earlobe Repair Johnson City

Earlobe repair in Johnson City is a quick procedure for people who have a torn, damaged or elongated earlobes. Earlobe repair may also be performed to minimize the appearance of keloid scars, which are benign growths that sometimes form on the edges of a pierced opening.

Why Undergo Earlobe Repair?

  • There are many reasons to choose earlobe repair, but the vast majority of patients choose surgery to normalize the appearance of damaged earlobes.
  • Earlobe repair can also be used to reconstruct the piercing tract for re-piercing. Most patients are able to re-pierce their ears within a few months of surgery.
  • If you suffer from keloid scars around the edges of your ears, earlobe repair in Johnson City can remove and re-contour the shape of your earlobes.
  • As a general rule, the best candidates for any surgical procedure should possess good overall health and a positive outlook on life.

Your Earlobe Repair With Dr. Bharti

  • Earlobe repair is typically an outpatient procedure that can be performed in 45 minutes or less.
  • Dr. Bharti will begin by administering a topical or local anesthetic to the treatment area. This will numb your ears during the procedure.
  • During a standard procedure, incisions will be made along the interior piercing tract to create "fresh" edges. Excess skin or scar tissue will be trimmed away.
  • The fresh edges of the earlobe will then be sutured together using fine stitches. Scarring should be minimal.

What to Expect After Surgery

  • Immediately following surgery, a bandage or surgical dressing may be place around the treated earlobe(s). This will minimize swelling and bruising during recovery.
  • You may experience some mild discomfort for the first few days, but most patients tolerate surgery quite well. Over-the-counter pain medication may be used to manage discomfort.
  • You will need to attend a follow-up visit with Dr. Bharti 1-2 weeks following surgery. Stitches will be removed during this visit.
  • If you plan to re-pierce your ears, it is recommended that you wait at least two months to ensure complete healing.

Earlobe Repair Alternatives

  • There are several techniques that can be used to repair a torn or elongated earlobe, but all of these techniques require surgery.
  • Medical management with steroid injections or radiation may be used to treat keloid scars present on the earlobes.
  • Dr. Bharti will be available to discuss all potential treatment options with you during your one-on-one consultation.
